Steam and GoG sales are on.

Anyone played Civ VI? I don't care about eye candy or soundtracks, I want a deep strategy game not something "streamlined" for today's technopeasants.

XCOM2 is cheap enough that I'll probably buy it. The XCOM remake was half decent, hard to believe  the original game on my 486SX could handle maps 10x the size of the remake on modern hardware.  Apparently they've rediscovered the secret lore of destructible terrain for XCOM2 which really annoyed me from the first remake.

In other gaming related news I recently read the Witcher novels, a few thoughts below the fold.

Print Story a new nadir of nerdery
By clover kicker (Sat Feb 11, 2017 at 10:05:13 PM EST) (all tags)
So I've been (off and on) obsessed with Kerbal Space Program for the couple years or so.

As my mastery of game mechanics and orbital mechanics has grown, I've gotten fussier about my missions. I'm no longer happy to merely get a probe to wherever, I want to get there in style, via an efficient trajectory, minimal waste and orbital debris, and as much launch platform re-use as possible.

This can be very (real life) time consuming, especially using spaceplanes where you have to carefully manage your ascent and be hypervigilant during the descent and landing.

Since KSP is an enormous nerd magnet of course someone has modded in a scripting language, and of course I've started to write my own autopilot routines.

In other news I'd been procrastinating on taking the interview and now they've been shut down. I'll have to try to get into one of the successors but I probably don't have the proper SERIOUS BIZNESS attitude to get into a site during the current turmoil.

This summer, circumstances led to me BBQing at least one meal every weekend. It was great.

I've kept at it fairly frequently this fall and winter, and have learned a couple things I would like to pass on.

OK, so I've planned my weekend shopping expedition based on the fliers in this morning's paper.

Bed/Bath/Beyond - quadcopter drone

Cabella's - scented candles

Best Buy - pots and pans

Unfortunately none of the hardware stores seem to have a sale on turkeys, maybe next week.

From a window in the tower of song

Yeah my friends are gone and my hair is grey
I ache in the places where I used to play

Think I posted this before but the Nobel thing jogged my memory.
