Operation Don't Get Fatter
Somewhat approximate since I didn't keep proper records at first (too many random fluctuations when you start losing weight), but I make this week 52 since Operation Become Less Fat began. Weight so far:
One year

Celebrated with a McDonalds Big Mac Meal. Tasty as ever, and love the convenience. Especially when I've worked a long day, fed up with trudging home past a dozen chip shops and burger bars and kebab houses and Indian takeaways and fried chicken joints to start chopping up vegetables for the steamer. Have lost my McReflexes though: stood around for two minutes in the regular queue before spotting the empty Express queue, then forgot to ask for ketchup. I feel like such an amateur.

Going to be tough not to gain weight over the next month: have 11 days of eating out in Italy, then a week with my parents. Will probably be right back at the start again by January.

Reading
Not much. Got another bunch of Asterixes which I've been working through (not counting them since they're re-readings). Also got through another comic: Ex Machina: the First Hundred Days Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris. Introduces a new superhero with power over machines, who gives up the superheroing to become Mayor of New York, where he can make more of a difference. Not bad, but not a lot happens beyond introducing the characters.

Watching
Saw Capote on DVD. Pretty good. It's a mood-and-character thing so you don't really notice the glacial pace. It's about Truman Capote's research and writing of his book "In Cold Blood" about a notorious multiple murder. Very well done as you see Capote both ruthlessly manipulative in his attempts to get access to all the parties, and increasingly unsettled by his identification with one of the murderers. Worth seeing.

Me: consumerism
Still knackered, still not booked hotels and stuff for Italy holiday. Tempted to buy a new bag, a replacement for my 45-litre-rucksack-plus-daypack-with-straps-tucked-away-to-impersonate-a-suitcase bag, since the daypack expired ages ago.

Couldn't find one the same size though: the closest seems like 60-litre Lifeventure Kativa, which seems a bit much for my little one or two week trips. On the other hand, can always travel with extra space in there.

Web
You got your Enterprise in my Galactica.

I suppose I can walk around for longer without getting tired. But it's mainly about looking better. And being perceived and treated as a more dynamic, capable and better person than I used to be without actually doing or saying anything different...

but, we also walked between 5-10 miles a day as well, which helped counteract it.

Better documented Easter Egg by ucblockhead (4.00 / 1) #4 Sat Dec 02, 2006 at 12:49:57 PM EST
In the BSG miniseries, go frame-by-frame in the very beginning of the scene where Roslin is told she has cancer. You can see a number of ships out the glass roof and the first first one is very clearly the Serenity (from "Firefly"), landing off to the side. It's in-frame for maybe a second.

It's also confirmed...same effects team.

yay weight loss! by LilFlightTest (4.00 / 1) #5 Sun Dec 03, 2006 at 11:38:47 AM EST
i'm still working on mine. and by working, i mean trying to be a little more conscious of how i eat (not so much what i eat) and trying to get more tiny meals in per day, bigger lunch than dinner, etc. it probably could have been back off pretty much instantly if i'd have more time for exercise, but the plus side is that it won't just go back on like it would if i lost it then stopped exercising. i'm not what you'd call fat, and i'm not aiming for skinny, i'm just aiming for what i feel best at, around 145. i'd take 150 even.

why is it always so easy to gain 20 lbs, and then hell to get it to come off?

While touring: run! by Tonatiuh (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Dec 07, 2006 at 07:47:41 PM EST
I have run in many towns while traveling, from Ho Chi Minh City to Paris.

I am no athlete, as a matter of fact I am sure my BMI is worst than yours, but if you want to keep the good work, running is the perfect choice (and you get to see far more of the places you are visiting at a time when most tourists and even locals are not around).
