Tubes

You heard me, tubes.

Usual rules: no more than 1024 pixels on any one side, no more than 36 bit colour depth. No extreme porn because it's illegal in the UK.

Deadline: shall we say Monday 8th September.

I'm confused... by dmg (4.00 / 1) #8 Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 06:16:20 PM EST
Until about 2001 hardcore porn was illegal in the UK. After 2001, and I assume this was to comply with some EU legislation that Britain has signed up to on the sly, hardcore porn was legalised. Now it seems stuff that would be perfectly legal for you to do, is illegal to photograph. WTF???

Do New Labour want us to be at the heart of Europe or not? An aversion to watersports and fisting would make me think that they are against the whole EU project...

And a big "hear hear" to Herring, whose call for tubes serendipitously led to this photo's being posted.

That's like a scene out of Blade Runner or Neuromancer or something. Wonderful. I dig the rust. It just gives it that "urban forgotten" je ne sais quoi.
Buy my books, dammit!

Hey, thanks! by toxicfur (2.00 / 0) #15 Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 09:16:26 PM EST
The camera doesn't really capture the true urban ... decay is too strong a word, but you get what I mean. What I really want is for spacejack to visit my office and draw what he sees out the window. My view goes well with Apocalypse Summer, a print of which is hanging on my wall.

This was taken in automagical mode by an EOS Rebel XT with a zoom lens, zoomed to fit. Powers bottle, courtesy of blixco. The rum bottle is ours (and boy was it tasty). Afternoon sun courtesy of nature. Post-processing included halving the size and a gamma correction of 0.8, using the unix program xv on my iBook G4.

Picture embedding courtesy of hulver, and the "fancy editor == no" setting in display preferences.

wheat stalks

Sorry about the linky... the uploady thing wouldn't upload it and scoop didn't want to embed it. I promise it's a wholesome family image. Taken with Panasonic Lumix FZ7 on a miserable day in a wheatfield in Dorset. Reduced in size and colour adjusted a wee bit.

Practical tubes! by R343L (4.00 / 1) #20 Sun Sep 07, 2008 at 09:57:59 PM EST
Part of the basement of the House of Things. I did not move anything into place, arrange anything or otherwise stage this. This is part of the actual basement. Picture not modified except to shrink it and up the brightness/contrast so you could see all the lovely useful tubes!

My only wish would be for about twice as much of the central pi -- err tube to be in focus. But a delicious photo in spite of that.

I *do* like the way by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #26 Mon Sep 08, 2008 at 05:58:33 PM EST

clear focus makes a slick diagonal slash across half the picture. We just disagree on amount of fuzz.

Hmmm... Maybe I'd better shave...
